Dear Residents,

We hope that in these challenging times you are all keeping as safe and as well as you can and that you are looking forward to Christmas.

The Parish Council and Village hall teams wanted to drop you a note about an exciting Covid safe event that we are co-ordinating for our village and which we are working on together, and you don’t need to leave your front gate to get involved – to keep us all safe.

This year we’ve missed out on so many social events including our annual bonfire night and our Christmas gathering, and at a time when we are all looking forward to the Christmas season, we wanted to add some Christmas magic and sparkle to our village.

And so, we want to invite you all to be part of our “Light Up Walton at Christmas” event planned for November 28th when we will be switching on the Village Hall lights and tree at 6 pm.  We’ve been thinking about how we can celebrate the run-up to Christmas and wondered if you wanted to take part and light up your house on the same day?

We are mindful that times are tough for many in our community, whether that be through isolation or other worries and concerns.  Therefore, to help in some small way, we’ve worked together to get hold of our own external Christmas lights that you can use through the festive period.

You might already have your own lights or other Christmas decorations, and we thought it would be excellent to pull together and make our village look festive.

Our planning is well underway to decorate our key locations in the village in line with government Covid guidelines –  if you would like to take part then please get your planning ready for SATURDAY 28th NOVEMBER at 6 PM.

A range of outside lights will be available to you – battery or mains electric – and if you wish to join in, particularly those houses on Main Street between School Lane and Smiddy Hill, we can’t wait to hear from you! It’s a chance and an opportunity to add colour and brightness to trees and hedges, and a chance to bring the Walton spirit to the fore and for all of us to enjoy that sense of community – without any risk to our health and wellbeing.

If you want to use some of our lights, then please contact Mark on 07786 246997.  We have limited supplies – so please get in early to avoid disappointment.  Once we know of people’s requirements we will deliver these to you in a Covid secure way to your front door in a non-contact way.  All lights will be new and disinfected before we hand them over.  We will then arrange for collection in the New Year.

Thank you in anticipation!
